ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“Most paintings are complicated enough to demand that they be visually digested over a period of time - the degree of information making it impossible to witness the whole image immediately.

These new paintings are a continued attempt to create an emotion that is simple and complete. The feeling they generate being more akin to the sense of smell or taste. The paintings remain subdued. They exist on a level that is only just audible. The new sprayed paintings are unfocussed, blurred - like a simple melody heard from a long way off.

I’ve also been working in gloss or enamel paint on MDF. These paintings rely not on tonal change but the use of line to suggest the human form. They are a lot more blatant and sexy than the blue paintings . . . but they come from the same family.

I hope you enjoy the show.”
