Women in the Atrium

May 8th – July 3rd.

Atrium Gallery proudly presents an exhibition featuring work from a selection of its women artists:

Natalia Arias, Lore Bert, Leila Daw, Claudia DeMonte, Julia Fernandez-Pol, Karen Kunc, Annette Morriss, Katy Stone, and Mary Joan Waid.

For nearly thirty years Atrium has shown and represented a strong group of female artists.  Selected for their commendable and interesting work, not gender, these have become a very exciting and formidable influence on the character and success of the gallery.  Spanning a wide range of age from 30 to almost 80, this selection of nine is less than half the number women associated with Atrium, but represents the group with an exceptional exhibition comprised of a wide variety of media – photographs, sculptural works of handmade paper, sculpture, fiber works, paintings, artist books, pastels, and a wall painting.  It is a deep and rich presentation with various themes, some relating to women's issues and others concerned with additional formal and informal subjects.  The featured artists all have national and international reputations, with work in numerous major museums.  A third of the group have foreign backgrounds, Arias (Colombia), Bert (Germany), and Fernandez-Pol (Argentina) reflecting the long standing international composition of the gallery stable.  Shown together, this group makes a dynamic statement about Atrium's commitment to developing interest in work by exceptional female artists.

The exhibition opens Friday, May 8th with a reception from 6 — 8 p.m. and will run through July 3rd.
